ANDERSON COUNTY – By providing local companies with dependable hands, the Goodwill Job Connection in Powdersville is building a strong community workforce.
“By partnering with Goodwill Industries, we all give back to the communities we live in and it creates a circle of kindness that we need so much more of,” said Teresa Talbert at Maristaff Inc.
According to Goodwill officials, more than 8,000 people in the Upstate were placed in employment last year.
“In addition to the services available to job seekers, we also offer services to employers to help fill their employment needs,” said Kristen Henry, Goodwill Employment Specialist. “Those services include posting available positions, referrals, recruiting and screening applicants, private rooms for interviews, and job fairs. Our goal is to help establish a connection between an employer and a prospective employee, and last year 8,669 people were placed into employment with the benefit of the Goodwill service. “
Employers are encouraged by the benefit provided to local families when using the Goodwill Job Connection services.
“The Goodwill Job Connection has been instrumental in helping our families get jobs through their employment services, resume assistance, and background check services,” said Sharon Sanders PhD, director of family services at The Parenting Place. “Also, a huge help are the job development classes they offer here and at other locations. These classes have helped many of our parents to obtain training and certifications that enable them to get better jobs with higher pay. The collaboration we have with the Goodwill Job Connection is one of the most helpful relationships we have, since employment and under-employment are usually the first thing we must address in trying to help our families overcome obstacles.”
Officials at Palmetto Home Care expressed their need for a variety of the services offered by the Goodwill Job Connection.
“Here at Palmetto Home Care, we are always excited to work with area Goodwill Job Connections to help fill our employment needs with qualified and skilled candidates,” said Georgia Lanning at Palmetto Home Care. “We use several of their services, from hiring graduates of Goodwill’s healthcare training program, to background checks, direct referrals as well as job fairs.”
For employers, providing a quality workforce is also a benefit to utilizing the job connection.
“The Job Connection’s discounted state background check reports are very helpful to job seekers on tight budgets by reducing the cost of job searching and helping them to find gainful employment,” said Belinda McBride at Phillips Staffing. “Here at Phillips Staffing, we also appreciate their efforts to refer qualified candidates to our office for consideration, and to assist job seekers who may not qualify for positions with Phillips to find quality employment opportunities.”
The Goodwill Job Connection is expected to have a new location in Easley by March of 2014.
