ANDERSON COUNTY – After the City of Anderson cancelled its Christmas parade earlier this month, a group of volunteers set out to make history.
“A group of local volunteers have organized the First Annual Anderson County Christmas Parade, scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21,” said Steve Newton, Anderson County Governmental Affairs Liaison. “Plans for the parade began when a group of local residents banded together after cancellation of the City of Anderson’s Christmas parade. That event was scheduled for Dec. 8, but cancelled due to inclement weather and not rescheduled. Organizers of the Anderson County Christmas Parade said that their event will be held rain or shine.”
According to Newton, the parade will be held at the balloon launch grounds.
“The parade will be held at the balloon launch field on the grounds of the Anderson Sports and Entertainment Complex,” Newton said. “The balloon launch field is at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Woodcrest Road. Public parking will be available at the Recycling and Education Center.”
Newton said parade entries are welcome from anyone in the area.
“Parade entries are invited from any and all persons or groups in Anderson County and the surrounding area,” he said. “There are no fees for participants or attendees, and parking is free. Those interested in participating in the parade are asked to submit an entry form no later than noon on Friday, Dec. 20.”
Entry forms can be obtained by emailing the parade organizers at email@example.com.
Parade organizers have announced that James Robert “Radio” Kennedy will serve as Grand Marshal for the inaugural 2013 parade. More information can be found at the parade’s Facebook page- https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Anderson-County-Christmas-Parade-First-Annual-2013/465125040275762.
