WALHALLA — The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Westminster woman and is looking for her husband in a child neglect case that involves three children.
Anita Crystal Waters, 31, of 180 School House Road in Westminster, was arrested Feb. 7 on three counts of unlawful neglect of a child.
According to investigators, a deputy responded on Feb. 4 to the Department of Social Services office in Walhalla in regard to an abuse/neglect case.
According to investigators, Waters exposed a 14-year-old male, a 10-year-old male and a 5-year-old female to methamphetamines. The victims and the defendant tested positive for methamphetamine.
The total surety bond amount on Waters on the three charges was $45,000. Waters was released from the Oconee County Detention Center on Feb. 9.
The Sheriff’s Office still has three outstanding warrants for unlawful neglect of a child on her husband, Jesse Logan Waters, 37, of the same address. According to investigators, Waters is charged with exposing the three children to methamphetamine.
The Sheriff’s Office also said Anita and Jesse Waters were arrested Jan. 22 on multiple drug charges.
Jesse Waters was charged at that time with possession of marijuana (second or subsequent offense), distribution of methamphetamine (second offense) and distribution of drugs within proximity of a school, all of which occurred at the School House Road address.
Waters was also charged with drug trafficking for possession of methamphetamine (more than 10 grams but less than 28 grams) and resisting arrest at 5505 West-Oak Highway.
Anita Waters was charged with distribution of drugs within proximity of a school, distribution of methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana, which all occurred at the School House Road address.
The closest school to the School House Road address is Oakway Intermediate School, which is about a half mile away from the 180 School House Road address.
According to investigators, a search warrant was executed on Jan. 22 at the School House Road location in Westminster. Drugs, drug paraphernalia, and other items were seized during that time.
Both individuals were not at the School House Road location at that time, but were arrested that day by deputies at the Dollar General location at the West-Oak Highway address, where drugs were found on the person of Jesse Waters.
Jesse Waters ran from deputies but was later captured that same day.
