EASLEY — Baptist Easley Hospital is going all out in an effort to help others and will be holding a silent auction April 3 to raise much needed money for three different charities.
A bevy of items will be available from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of the hospital for bid to the public with the proceeds going to March of Dimes, Relay For Life and American Heart Association.
“Everybody has something that touches them, tugs at their heart, and this gives them an opportunity to help where they feel they should,” said Andrea Stegall, Community and Physicians Coordinator. “Almost everyone knows someone who has had a heart attack, cancer, or a child with health issues which makes it more personal.”
Gift cards, gift certificates, golf outings, and even a one-hour aerial ride over Pickens County are just some of the items that have been donated by local businesses and individuals in conjunction with the hospital’s efforts.
The aerial view was donated by a Baptist Easley practice, Easley General Surgery, and was suggested by Dr. Josh Morowitz, a veteran of Angel Flights. The helicopter ride will last one hour and is designed for three passengers.
An undertaking in fundraising such as this is a first for the group, as CEO Michael Batchelor wanted to get more involved in the community and allow the employees to do the same.
“Under Michael’s leadership we’re doing this for the first time,” Stegall explained. “In the past we’ve always concentrated on just one charity. In the past different offices have formed teams to help different charities, but for the first time we are doing this as a whole to show the community we’re part of it.”
How have the employees responded?
“We selected a champion from different departments and offices, someone touched by one of these three charities,” Stegall said. “They then have gotten the word out to other employees about how their lives were affected and it’s helped make a connection for everyone.”
Overall Baptist Easley is looking to raise $135,000 to benefit these charities through its Because We Care program. Any and all are welcome to bid on the items for auction. Cash and checks are preferred but credit cards will be welcomed.
