WALHALLA — The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Westminster man Tuesday on breach of trust charges after he reportedly took money from his employer.

Kenneth Dwayne McElreath, 38, whose address on warrants is listed as 1238 Greenfield Road, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 8:39 a.m. Tuesday. He was released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.

According to the incident report and warrants, a deputy responded to the Sandifer Boulevard Walmart in Seneca on July 3 and was told that the end of shift money count had come up short between March 1 and July 3. The shortages occurred on the days when McElreath was on duty as assistant manager.

Video surveillance revealed that McElreath had taken money from the money bags and the safe on different occasions. According to the incident report, McElreath was terminated from the store on July 3 after a meeting with management.

Warrants charge McElreath with taking around $5,000 in cash.
