ANDERSON — The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Joseph Adam Hill, 28, of Anderson, and charged him with the attempted murder of his girlfriend, Wendey Michelle Hawkins.
Per the arrest warrant, on March 13, 2014, Hill fired a handgun multiple times at a vehicle occupied by Hawkins. The vehicle was struck by several of the bullets.
According to the incident report, the couple was driving home from a friend’s house when Hill demanded that Hawkins drive, since his license was suspended. When Hawkins stated that she did not want to drive, Hill became irate and threatened to shoot her.
When Hawkins got behind the wheel, she quickly drove away leaving Hill standing in the parking lot of the gas station at 2306 Flat Rock Road in Starr.
As Hawkins drove away, Hill fired at the vehicle. The investigation revealed that bullets struck the vehicle’s rear window, passenger’s side window, and the back driver’s side door.
Hill was taken into custody April 25 by members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and served with a warrant for attempted murder.
Hill was being held at the Anderson County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond. He was released on bond April 28 and turned over to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, where he is currently being held on charges of grand larceny.
