PICKENS COUNTY – Clemson Habitat for Humanity and Safe Harbor were two groups that were recipients of more than $21,000 handed out to local charities by Lights of Hope.


Clemson Habitat for Humanity received $1,500 and Safe Harbor received $2,500.


Other recipients were Anderson Oconee Speech and Hearing - $3,000; Future Business Leaders of America - $2,000; DCEC - $2,500; Touch the Future - $2,500; AVID - $1,000; Pendleton High School ROTC - $1,250; and Upstate Church of Christ - $1,000.


Samantha Snook was named Volunteer of the Year.


Additional smaller checks will be given out at another check presentation to the groups and organizations that assisted. Those checks will total $3,825.


Lake Hartwell Hyundai presented the Lights of Hope board with a check for $4,400 for title sponsorship in 2014.


Lights of Hope is a Christmas light drive through event in Anderson. 2014 will be the 20th anniversary for the organization. Plans are being made to move from the current 14 acres to a larger 45 acre location in 2015. This will make the event the 2nd largest in the state that returns most of its funding back to the community.
