UNION — Three local businesses will soon have new homes in a plaza now under construction off of the Buffalo-West Springs Highway.
SGC-McWhorter began construction this week on “Audrey Plaza” which, when completed, will be located at 317 Buffalo-West Springs Highway near the Walmart Super Center.
Mark Jones, president and owner of SGC, said that his company and McWhorter are building the facility on behalf of HL Union, LLC, a Charlotte, NC-based developer. Jones, whose company built the nearby Shoe Show building, said the permit for the project was issued at the end of last week and grading got under way at the beginning of this week. He said construction of the 17,000 square-foot facility is expected to be complete by October.
Jones said Audrey Plaza will have space for three Union stores — Dollar Tree, Hibbett Sports, and Cato — that he said will be relocating there from their current locations. While the new spaces will be ready by October, Jones said he did not know when the stores will actually move there.
Dollar Tree, Hibbett Sports, and Cato are all currently located at 441 N. Duncan Bypass.
Hibbett Sports Real Estate Manager Matt Carlson said that the Union store will be relocating to Audrey Plaza. Carlson said the new location will be more convenient to the store’s customers. He said plans are for the new location to be open by January.
“We’re excited about it,” Carlson said Friday about the relocation of the store. “Union has been good to us and we hope we bring merchadise that they find useful. We think we’ll be in Union for a long time to come.”
