RICHMOND, Va. — In the closing laps of the Toyota Owners 400 Sprint Cup race at Richmond International Raceway, Joey Logano bolted from fourth to first to gain his second win of the 2014 Sprint Cup season.

Jeff Gordon ended up second, Kyle Busch third, Brad Keselowski fourth and Matt Kenseth rounded out the top five.

While Friday night’s Nationwide race saw a lot of fog descend upon the track following a storm front, a number of tire issues in the Sprint Cup race resulted in fires and smoke along pit road. Blown tires/rubber and brake lines did not make for a good combination.

Goodyear tire officials announced following the race they would be looking into the unusual occurrences and tire composition. Luckily no driver or crew member was injured.

Tempers appeared to flare as well once the checkered flag waved and carried over to pit road and the garage area.

Brad Keselowski and Matt Kenseth were separated after a heated exchange of words and differing opinions.

But the real exchange reportedly took place in the garage area between Casey Mears and Marcos Ambrose where punches were thrown.

NASCAR officials will be talking to the involved players and reviewing videotape to determine whether any penalties are deemed necessary.

Logano gained his first career victory on the .75 mile oval while Gordon, Kenseth and Keselowski were battling for track position in the final laps.

It was during this battle that Logano boldly went underneath all three and drove himself and the Team Penske #22 Pennzoil Ford to Victory Lane.

“I’m more surprised than anyone else here,” Logano said. “This is one of my worse tracks… what a crazy finish.”

With his second win this season, Logano has locked himself a spot in The Chase for the Sprint Cup.
