NEWBERRY — Savanah Goodman of Easley shot a round of one over par 73 to win the medalist award in the stroke play qualifying of the 37th S.C. Junior Match Play Championship.


Goodman, a rising high school junior, was seeded number one for match play that began on Wednesday on the Country Club of Newberry course.


Sisters Maddy Cox and Morgan Cox from Easley are also competing.


In boys’ stroke play, Hunter Camp from Easley shot a 3 over par 75; Matt Carter from Easley shot a 5 over par 77; JT Casey of Easley shot a 6 over par 78; Drake McAlister of Easley shot a 7 over par 79; Sawyer Mills of Easley and Drew Turner of Easley both shot 8 over par 80s; Zachary Evatt of Easley shot a nine over par 81; and Rhett Merritt III of Easley shot an 11 over par 83.


Mills advanced to match play on the first playoff hole.


The annual junior championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
