EASLEY – Spending hours waiting in the emergency room is no longer necessary for patients at Baptist Easley Hospital.

According to the emergency department’s nurse manager, Angie Neeley, a new hospital service will allow prospective patients to wait from the comfort of their homes until the appropriate healthcare professional becomes available.

“The InQuicker online waiting service will give our prospective patients more control over their emergency care experience,” Neeley said. “They connect with our emergency room via InQuicker online, they choose a treatment time, and they wait in the comfort of their home until it’s time to be seen.”

The online service began last week and will afford patients the flexibility of registering themselves for treatment.

“A patient should go online and access our hospital website,” Neeley said. “They should click on the emergency services InQuicker link. This will take them to prospective appointment times, so they have the flexibility of choosing whether they want to come in one hour or in five hours.”

Neeley said the InQuicker system is capable of filtering the patients in order of necessity.

“Once they register and enter their information online, the system has a unique ability to filter patients out that need to be seen right away,” she said. “If someone puts in a keyword that is chest pain or heart racing, the system will automatically give them a cue to call 911.”

Officials at Baptist Easley said the system was designed to provide efficient care for patients with non-life-threatening conditions.

“InQuicker is intended only for individuals with non-life-threatening or non-debilitating medical conditions,” said Allison Greene, manager of marketing and public relations at Baptist Easley. “It’s a simple and convenient way for people with busy lives and busy families to access care conveniently for minor medical needs. If you’re in doubt about the severity of your condition, you should always seek immediate care.

“The InQuicker system is designed to filter certain symptom keywords that may indicate a life-threatening or debilitating medical condition, in addition to a review of a user’s symptoms by a health care professional at Baptist Easley. Those indicating such medical conditions are prompted to dial 911 or go immediately to the nearest emergency room.”

According to Neeley, the system enables healthcare professional to be prepared for the arriving patients.

“The system sends notifications to the emergency department,” Neeley said. “We get it by fax, phone call, and text message. At that time, our charge nurse in the emergency department goes online and can look at the patient’s registration form. They can also prepare for that patient to arrive and get the process rolling a little quicker which will improve the patient’s experience.”
