PICKENS — Approximately 300 colorful plastic balls raced down Town Creek in just under eight minutes in the Pickens Recreation Department’s fourth annual PYAC Town Creek Speedy Ball Race held recently.

Ball #7, bought by Tyler Brezeale came in first place and earned its owner a $200 cash prize. Second place went to Chris Rowland, owner of Ball #191 and winner of a $50 Walmart gift certificate and a Domino’s Family Pack.

Third place went to Tonia Cummings, owner of Ball #241. Cummings won a prize package that included a Domino’s Family Pack.

Three Speedy Ball sellers were recognized for their efforts: Cade DelFavero came in first, Cameron Robinson came in second and third place went to Cora Levy.

Cheerleading/football registration

Registration for cheerleading and football continues through June 20. The birthday cut off is Sept. 1 for both.

Cheerleading fitting dates are May 28 and June 18 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Pickens Recreation Center on Sangamo Road. The uniform style was new last year so your cheerleader must attend one of the two fitting dates or be able to buy a used one from last year’s season only to cheer during the 2014 season.

The entire set includes a two-piece style uniform, briefs and poms. The cost is $98 for the uniform package plus the registration fee. For additional information, call the Recreation Department at 878-2296.
