PICKENS — Since 1954, The Inspirations have been just that, an inspiration, and the group will be in Pickens on Aug. 15 looking to inspire once again.

Bible Baptist Church of Pickens will be hosting what they hope will become an annual tradition, Family Harmony Anniversary Singing, with The Inspirations as the headliner but backed up equally as well by The Rochesters and Family Harmony.

According to the Rev. Mark Dibler, it will be a night of Christian music to suit just about anyone’s taste.

“The Inspirations have been together for a long time and they do more old Southern Gospel music,” Dibler said. “The Rochesters are more bluegrass and Family Harmony is sort of praise music and they write a lot of their own material.”

Bible Baptist has hosted a show similar to this event seven times in the past, just not in consecutive years, and Dibler is hoping to change that beginning in 2014. He felt like the lineup was one that would draw a diverse crowd.

“The Rochesters play all over the country and are well known, Family Harmony is a group of kids already getting attention for their own material, and The Inspirations have been at it for 50-plus years,” he said. “From teenagers to parents, it doesn’t matter, if you enjoy good gospel music you’ll probably hear something you like.”

Even though there have been breaks between the event on an annual basis, Dibler says it was always the plan to grow the event in the community to sustain itself each year. The event has grown enough to be hosted at Pickens High School to accommodate the crowd.

“We always wanted to do it every year and each time we hosted the show it just got bigger and bigger,” Dibler explained. “It’s always been a sort of reunion for the church and our church family and the community. It’s good fellowship and good music and everybody’s invited.”

Advance tickets are available through Bible Baptist Church and also through Cornerstone Bible and Music Store. The show will begin at 7 p.m. at Pickens High School Aug. 15 with the doors opening at 6 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Advance tickets for children 12 and under are $5 and $7 at the door.
