POWDERSVILLE – For the first time this season, the Powdersville High football team has dropped two straight region games.

The Patriots most recent loss came to Landrum, which held Powdersville scoreless for two straight quarters in route to a 38-14 victory.

The loss comes on the heels of a devastating defeat against Crescent, in which the Patriots fell in overtime.

Powdersville is now an even 3-3 on the year with a 1-2 record in all-important region play.

It seemed as if the Patriots were going to set the tempo last Friday night, as they opened the game with an early score, boasting a 7-0 advantage heading into the second quarter.

The Landrum offense did not stay quiet for long, however. The Cardnials would not be denied in the second, scoring 21-0 points in route to a two-score halftime lead. Landrum continued to pile it on in the second half, scoring on two successful drives in the third quarter to push the margin to a four-score lead.

That deficit was too much to overcome for Powdersville. The Patriots registered just one more score in the fourth quarter, holding Landrum to three final-quarter points.

Looking ahead, the Patriots will have their work cut out for them in their four final region showdowns. Three of Powdersville’s last four regular season games are on the road where the Patriots have struggled this season.

Of Powdersville’s three losses, two of them have come away from home.

The Patriot’s first test will come this Friday on the road against Pendleton (also 3-3). Powdersville will then return home for a short stay against Chesnee (5-1), before closing out the season with two straight road games against Carolina Academy (2-4) and Blacksburg (0-6).

Kickoff for this Friday’s game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Pendleton.
