FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – Southern Wesleyan men’s basketball dropped a 94-61 decision to No. 14 Emmanuel on Saturday afternoon in a battle of Southern States Athletic Conference rivals. The contest is also part of the Lil’ Bronze Peach Series which puts points up for grabs in every meeting between the schools.
The Warriors led briefly in the early goings before a 15-0 run by the Lions gave them a commanding 30-16 lead with 11 minutes to play in the first half. The lead reached 28 in the first half before settling at 27 (55-28) at the break. From there things only got worse for the Warriors as the lead ballooned to 39 in the second half. SWU never saw the lead get under 30 after the opening moments of the second half.
With the loss the Warriors fall to 10-8 overall and 5-4 in the SSAC. The Lions improve to 18-2 overall and 8-2 in the SSAC. Emmanuel sits atop the SSAC East with a 1.5 game lead over Faulkner while the Warriors are just a game behind Faulkner for third.
On a night when not a lot went their way the Warriors were led in scoring by Cameron Solomon and Dwayne Bryant who each scored 12 points. Bryant also grabbed eight rebounds to lead all players. Jemiah Wimphrie saw his best game on the season with 11 points off the bench.
The Warriors shot 41 percent from the floor but struggled from the three point line (3 of 16) and the free throw line (10 of 20). The Lions made 59 percent of their field goal attempts and 8 of 19 from beyond the arc. Michael Stanley led four Lions in double figures with 22 points.
The SWU loss gives the Lions two points in the Lil’ Bronze Peach Series and keeps Emmanuel’s four point lead that they held entering the night.
