BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Southern Wesleyan women took 10th and the men placed 14th at the NCCAA National Indoor Meet last weekend hosted by Olivet Nazarene University.
The women finished with 20 points in a tie with Lee University for 10th place out of the field of 18. The men finished with 10 points and in 14th out of 21 teams.
After Friday’s strong showing by Amber King in the long jump, she followed up with another sixth place finish, this time in the triple jump. Her final mark was 11.08 meters. The women’s 4x400 meter relay team came back for another sixth place finish after taking sixth in the 4x200 on Friday. The team of Jess Maggio, Logan Thiel, Olivia Bush and Lavornne Taylor turned in a time of 4:06.49, missing the NAIA cut by just one second.
On the individual side, Maggio had two top-10 finishes, taking fourth in the 60m hurdles and sixth in the 60m dash. For the men, Jhante McMillan took fifth in the 60m hurdles. Keith Johnson had the best individual finish on the men’s side with a fourth place showing in the 400m dash. The men’s 4x800 relay team placed eighth as Drew Welch, Josh Thatcher, Nick Shear and Stephen Spearman earned a point for the Warriors.
Olivia Bush tied for eighth in qualifying in the 60m hurdles and finished just outside of scoring position in ninth place in the finals. She also took 16th in the timed final of the 200m. Sierra Zemanick ran a personal best in the 800m, placing 16th with a time of 2:26.19.
