PICKENS — From the opening possession until the final horn, the Easley Green Wave dominated the Blue Flame of Pickens on the road for its fourth consecutive win in the county rivalry by a final score of 52-7.
Turnovers set the tone in the first half with the Green Wave picking off three Pickens passes, controlling field position and the ball following a game-opening scoring drive to open the scoring.
Easley’s quarterback Dalton Black went 5 for 5 passing on the opening drive.
The second quarter didn’t bode much better for Pickens.
With the game still within reach Easley took any wind out of the Blue Flame sails by scoring 13 points in 13 seconds. Black completed a 62-yard pass and then drove into the endzone followed by an interception for a touchdown on the ensuing Pickens offensive play.
“Our defense’s performance was what we’ve come to expect from them,” said Grayson Howell, Easley head coach. “With eight returning starters, you expect good things and that’s exactly what we got from them against Pickens.”
Pickens Head Coach Chad Seaborn is ready for his squad to put the game behind them.
“We had some guys get banged up,” he said. “The important thing is to not let this game beat us twice looking forward to the next game.”
Pickens, now 0-1 to start the season, will travel to Pendleton on Friday. Easley, 1-0, will host D. W. Daniel in Daniel’s season opener.
