SIX MILE — As candidates prepare to enter the 2010 general election year, the county Democratic Party is featuring two timely candidates.

Third District Congressional candidate Jane Dyer will speak to party members about her campaign and ways they can help her win the seat being vacated by Rep. Gresham Barrett.

The party will meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at Six Mile Town Hall.

A Captain in the United States Air Force, and one of its first female pilots, Dyer will speak on issues such as creating jobs in South Carolina, health care and the environment.

Also on the meeting’s agenda is Katherine Muller, Upstate Coordinator for Repower South Carolina, a nonpartisan initiative founded by former Vice President Al Gore with the goal of moving the nation toward “repowering” itself through 100 percent clean electricity, while revitalizing the nation’s energy structure.

Pickens County Democratic Party Chairman John Painter says Muller’s appearance is especially welcome, as the Senate is considering vital climate change legislation.

“Katherine will be updating us on the progress of this legislation and offering opportunities for members of the Pickens County Democratic Party to influence it’s passage,” he said.

State Senator Vincent Sheheen, who is running for governor, will speak at the December party meeting, Painter said.

Upstate Democrats have an opportunity to meet the five candidates seeking the party nomination for governor next week. Sheheen, Sen. Robert Ford, State Superintendent Dr. Jim Rex and attorneys Dwight Drake and Mullins McCleod will be in attendance at Upstate reception Tuesday, Nov. 17 at the Anderson Arts Warehouse, 110 Federal Street in Anderson.

This party fundraiser will be the only time all 5 candidates will appear together in the Upstate, and attendees will have an opportunity to personally question candidates about their stances on important issues.
