EASLEY — Two women died Friday afternoon in a single-car accident in Easley.

The crash happened around 3:35 p.m. on Tabor Wood Road, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Lance Cpl. Kathy Hiles said the vehicle went off the left side of the road and hit an embankment.

She said the car flipped several times and came to rest against a tree.

The passenger, Deborah Whitemire, 57, of 17 Irene Circle, Greenville, was thrown from the vehicle, according to coroner Kandy Kelley.

She was taken to Palmetto Health Baptist where she was pronounced dead, Kelley said.

Whitmire’s mother, 78-year-old Lillian Tate, of the same residence, was driving the car, according to Hiles.

She was taken Cannon Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced, dead, Kelley said.

Neither woman was wearing seat belts, she said.

Autopsies were scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Greenville Memorial, according to Kelley.

The accident is being investigated by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
