EASLEY—The Philippines came back from a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the second inning on their way to a 7-2 victory over Canada in the Big League World Series Monday at the JB “Red” Owens Recreation Complex in Easley.
The Phillipines, winners of the Asia/Pacific Region, ended tournament play with a 2-2 record and third place in the International Pool. Canada, represented by Windsor Ontario, fell to 0-4.
Canada scored a run in the first inning. The Philippines came back with three runs in the second to take a 3-1 lead and never trailed. The Asia/Pacific champions scored two more runs in the third to go up 5-1.
Canada scored again in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-2. The Philippines scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.
Miguel Salud, Carlos Munoz and Paco Tantuico had three hits each for the Asia/Pacific chance, who had 11 hits for the game. Tantuico scored two runs and Munoz scored a run and had one RBI. Tsuyoshi Horibata hit a home run for the Philippines.
Munoz pitched five innings giving up two runs on four hits, while walking three and striking out eight.
