PICKENS COUNTY—A Pickens County man has been indicted in connection to threats sent in a letter last month to U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Simon Peter Long, 31, was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury in a single-count indictment charging him with mailing threatening communications, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 876(c), according to a statement released by U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles. The maximum penalty Long could receive is 10 years in prison.

The case involves a letter sent to a Graham office in South Carolina on Nov. 12.

Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) investigated the incident. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeanne Howard of the Greenville office has been assigned the case for prosecution.
