Wednesday, Oct. 24, 1984

• A public meeting was set to answer any questions about the proposed Easley Middle Branch wastewater treatment plant. Some local residents objected to the plan, and Anderson County Council filed for an injunction to stop construction of the plant.

• Alexander Drugs announced its plan to open a fourth store in Easley, a part of the Foothills Mall.

• Patty Pjield was selected by members of the board for the School District of Pickens County to fill the unexpired term of Nancy Welborn, who had resigned from her seat on the board earlier in the year.

• Robert Craig announced his retirement as director of business and properties for the School District of Pickens County.

• Easley residents crowded into Buck’s Restaurant to hear Sen. Strom Thurmond speak.

• “Incredible Hulk” star Lou Ferrigno made an appearance at a local health spa.

• Ross Fedder, retiring owner of Fedder’s Fashions on Main Street, Easley, was honored by the Uptown Merchants Association with a dinner at Buck’s Restaurant.

• Pizza Hut on US 123 in Easley was robbed.

• Obituaries were printed for Laura Bruist Starnes, John David McDaniel Sr., Maulde Pace Wilson, Honor Hendricks Jones, Jasper “Buck” Roper Sr., Marvin Richard Williams, John Edward Williams, Petty Mancil Jennings, Martha Brewer Crowe, Margaret McMahan McCabe, Ada Brown Craig, Louise Larkin Wyss, Grace Lee Waldrop Knox and Gladys Brooks Taylor.

• Easley defeated Wade Hampton 25-17 in football. Other scores were Wren 31, Walhalla 0; Seneca 25, Daniel 7, Southside 26, Liberty 6, and Mauldin 15, Pickens 8.

• Wedding announcements were printed for:

— Judith Lee Belcher to John Scott McFadden;

— Susan Pininia Martin to Thomas Hentry Yenson;

— Suzanne Lynn Burger to Timothy Paul Summers; and

• Two sets of twins were born the same day at Easley Baptist Hospital. The babies were Bobby Lee and Donna Marie Spearman and Danny Glenn and Jenny Lynn Chapman.

• Other births announced were Harold Christopher Smith, William Mark Gillespie, Janice Louise Craig, Terri Veronica Durham, Ricky Clive McConnell, Walter Jama Sports Jr. and Brian Tracy Morris.

• Obituaries were printed for Hiran Verdell Lindsay, Harry M. Pressley, Willie M. Smith, Jessie O’Sheal and Addie Knight Morgan .

• Pickens defeated Easley 12-6. Other scores included Greenville 6, Daniel 0; Libery 19, Seneca 0; and Pendleton 33, Wren 7.

• Georgia Lynn Carman was engaged to Gerald Nolan Owens.

• Sara Grogan was named Liberty Homecoming Queen.

75 Years Ago

Thursday, Oct. 25, 1934

• Roper Motor Company announced plans to operate a gas station at the corner of Holcombe and Main streets in Easley.

• Vick’s Diner opened on Main Street, Easley.

• South Carolina had started a “Register Your Baby” campaign, encouraging parents to obtain birth certificates for their children.

• Frank S. Nalley, 8, of Liberty, was killed when he was hit by a car as he was crossing Main Street to return to school after his lunch break.

• Ruth Newton wed N.B. Hicks Jr.

• Easley defeated Liberty 33-0 and was preparing for its showdown with Belton that Friday in the Green Wave’s final home game of the season. A year earlier, Easley and Belton had fought to a scoreless tie at Belton.
