• Plans were made to tear down the Pickens County Courthouse to make room for construction of a new courthouse.
• S.C. Attorney General Daniel McLeod spoke to the Easley Business and Professional Women’s Club.
• Birth announcements included David Maurice Smith Jr., Kimbery Lou Cody and Margaret Maleta Poore.
• Football scores included Easley 42, Walhalla 6; Pickens 22, Honea Path 7; Daniel 14, Parker 6; Taylors 26, Liberty 12; Slater-Marietta 14, Wren 6; and Cowpens 33, Dacusville 6.
• Obituaries were printed for Floyd A. Bell, William Newton Brake, Kate Rogers Bridges, John Wesley Julian, Annie Evans and Shirley Francis Holcombe.
• Sybil Ann Rowell was engaged to Jerry Eugene McLeese.
• A marker was place in the Oolenoy Baptist Church cemetery in Pumpkintown in memory of the many former slavs buried in unmarked graves there.

• Dr. William Williams Long, who had been director of Clemson’s Extension Service since its inception, died at age 73.
