PICKENS COUNTY – Members of the Vision 2025 Sense of Place Committee met last week to discuss new options for parks and recreation around Pickens County.
Their goal is to preserve the unique identity of Pickens County and the special identities of each community.
One of the major topics of discussion was cycling.
Members voiced that they would like for there to be a cycling trail between the Pickens, Easley and Liberty areas.
Easley is in the process of becoming a more cycler-friendly town, but the group hopes that each town will develop trails that connect with the neighboring town.
“We need to break down the Berlin Wall between Pickens and Easley,” Scott Buckhiester of DunBurks Premier Events said. “Community bike trails are just the way we need to do it. It would be amazing.”
The group hopes to develop a presentation for all of the municipals of Pickens County to let them know what the citizens of Pickens County are thinking about.
Some ideas for Easley, specifically were to have The Greenwave Trail which would start near Easley High School, run down to the JB Red Owens Sports Complex then back to downtown Easley.
The group said they think that the beautiful scenery of Pickens County would not only attract locals to ride on the trails, but it would also attract those from out of town.
