PELZER —An Easley woman died, and her three grandchildren were injured in a head-on collision in Piedmont Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened on Three Bridges Road around 1:30 p.m., according to Kathy Hiles with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Patty Ann Murphy Nazworth was killed, said Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown.

Nazworth was traveling south when the minivan she was driving crossed the center line and hit a dump truck carrying about 30 tons of topsoil, Hiles said.

Authorities believe all three children were under the age of 6.

Two of the children suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but a third was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The condition of the child is unknown at this time.

All three children were in child safety seats, and Nazworth was wearing a seatbelt, according to Hiles.

The driver of the dump truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also treated at Greenville Memorial.

He was wearing a seatbelt, Hiles said.

The dump truck and minivan collided in front of the Wendemere subdivision.

The Pelzer Rescue Squad and Pelzer firefighters responded to the accident.
