PIEDMONT — A Wren High School student died early Sunday morning after the vehicle he was driving went off Roe Road and struck a tree.
Christopher Ray Rose, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Kathy Hiles. Rose was driving south on River Road near Saluda Road at about 12:20 a.m. on Sunday when his vehicle drove off the left side of the road, Hiles said. He then overcorrected, and the 1989 two-door Saab drove off the right side of the road, struck a tree and overturned, Hiles said.
Anderson School District One officials said that guidance counselors were available Monday morning for students who were grieving.
“The Wren family is devastated by this news of the loss of Christopher,” said Wren High Principal Robbie Binnicker. “It is a difficult time for the students dealing with another student loss so soon. Our guidance counselors will on hand Monday to provide support.”
Just one month ago, two Wren students died in a wreck when their vehicle careened off a road and drove into an embankment.
Wren High student Priscilla Donald, 15, and Wren Middle student Lydia Grade Donald, 13, died on Friday, Feb. 27.
“It saddens our district family to hear about the loss of another student,” said Anderson One Superintendent Wayne Fowler. “Our heartfelt thoughts go out to the family during this time and especially to the siblings of the deceased, students at Wren High and Hunt Meadows.”
