PICKENS COUNTY – An era of state funding cuts like the last five years leave agencies like the Rape Crisis Council of Pickens County looking for alternative sources of revenue.

The local agency, which advocates for sexual assault victims after their attacks and organizes prevention programs, is reaching out to the community to complete funding for the fiscal year. They are doing so through the long-running Annual silent auction at Baptist Easley Hospital Friday night.

“The timing of the event is designed to help ensure funding for the final months of the year,” said Brandy Pepper, executive director of the council.

It amounts to a month’s worth of funding for the $300,000 budget for the organization.

Donated items for the auction to date include tool sets, golf packages, family vacations to Myrtle Beach and Disney World donations. The goal for the project is $25,000.

The auction will be held 6 – 8 p.m. at Baptist Easley Hospital. To participate, contact the council at 864-442-5500
