POWDERSVILLE – The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of North Anderson County will hold its annual fundraiser next Friday at Wren High School.
“It is the largest fundraiser in the world and it is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society,” said Wes Porter, chairman of the Relay for Life North Anderson. “Our communities of Powdersville, Piedmont, Williamston, and Pelzer come together all year and form relay teams.
Porter said that there are 27 teams right now for the May 3 event.
“We raise money throughout the year, and our goal this year is $84, 000,” Porter said. “On the night of the event, we will have a survivor’s dinner at 5:30 p.m. at the freshman academy at Wren High School, and then we will meet at the football field.”
Opening Ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m.
“The first lap will be only for survivors and the second lap will be for the caregivers,” Porter said. “The third lap will be team laps and then the relay will get started.”
Porter said that the participants will walk all night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
“The theme of the event is that cancer never sleeps so we won’t for one night,” Porter said.
The event will also include community activities such as vendors and bounce houses for kids.
