PICKENS COUNTY – State Rep. B.R. Skelton kept his District 3 house seat Tuesday night by 700 votes in unofficial tallies.
Skelton faced challenger Ed Harris and will continue to a sixth, two-year term representing Pickens County in the SC House of Representatives. He claimed 5,371 to Harris’ 4,675.
Skelton maintains in winning that education and economic development strategies go hand in hand as goals.
More remediation is needed to improve education in South Carolina, Skelton said Tuesday night. “Many cuts have been made in that,” he said. “Economic improvements must come before that. It is essential,” he said. “ We have to improve employment.”
Behind employment improvements over the long term is educational improvements, Skelton said.
He wanted to thank voters for “giving me the opportunity to serve them for another two years and giving me the previous 10 years.”
