Complete collection of duck stamp art at Anderson Arts Center through Feb. 22

The entire collection of the South Carolina Migratory Waterfowl Duck Stamp and Print Collection will be on display through Feb. 22 at the Anderson Arts Center.

The exhibit was kicked off on the evening of Jan. 11 with an opening reception at the Anderson Arts Center at 110 Federal St. in Anderson. Gallery hours for the exhibit are 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. For more information on the exhibit call (864) 222-2787.2013 Duck Stamp

“This significant collection is on loan from the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the South Carolina State Museum,” said Kimberly Spears, executive director of the Anderson Arts Center. “Traditionally, parts of this collection have been displayed at the annual Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, but this is the first time the entire collection has been displayed in a gallery setting.”

The exhibit includes the complete original works of art established from 1981–2013, including the unveiling of this year’s stamp by nationally known waterfowl artist, Jim Killen. The 2013 edition commemorates the first banded duck harvested by Dr. W. Bray in 1910 at the Rocky River in Anderson. History recalls this as the first “completed” duck banding from Jack Miner in Kingsville, Ontario, Canada, and helped to document the duck’s migration patterns. This is the ninth duck stamp by Killen, a Minnesota artist, and features the black duck species as well as the Boykin spaniel, the South Carolina state dog. Killen will be honored at a banquet in Anderson at the Arts Center on Friday, Feb. 8.

The exhibit also features wildlife art by local artists including Juan Brown, B.C. McConnell, Chase Hunter, Dan Fleming, Mark Hoyle, Charlie Jordan, Ron Kennedy, Donnie Hughes, Ronnie Hughes and Amanda Hughes.

“We are so honored to be able to bring this extraordinary exhibit to the Upstate and to Anderson, thanks to the cooperation of DNR, the State Museum and our exhibition sponsor, Anderson County,” Spears said.

Revenue from duck stamps, posters and prints support conservation and duck propagation programs in South Carolina and Canada.
