Robinson’s Funeral Home Will offer Starbucks in New “Coffee Corner”
by Billy Cannada

EASLEY—Robinson’s Funeral Home will soon be offering a service that few others can say they provide, a coffee shop.

As part of some recent renovations, the funeral home will add a coffee corner to its building Which will serve Starbucks products. The coffee corner is scheduled to open in August.

Owner Chris Robinson says this idea has been in the works for a while.

“We’ve been serving coffee for generations and we just wanted to provide the best level of coffee that we could. That’s why we picked the Starbucks brand,” said Robinson.

Robinson says the new feature is an attempt to give families a more comforting experience.

“We’ve got renovations and additions going on,” said Robinson. “We’re building a new lobby to make it easier for folks to come in and out of the building. The lobby will be nice and open with comfortable seating, and off to the right there will be a coffee corner where we’ll serve Starbucks.”

Adding this feature, however, should not interfere with their other services according to Robinson.

“If it is something that somebody does not want to participate in (they don’t have to). It will be a private area,” said Robinson. “If it does not appeal to someone, they won’t even know it’s there.”

Robinson said the coffee corner will offer many of the drinks popular in Starbucks coffee shops, but the menu will not include all the varieties offered at a typical Starbucks.

“It’s totally different than a Starbucks franchise, but we will be serving the Starbucks products,” said Robinson. “Our employees will run it.”

The coffee spot will offer a few other features as well, including wireless internet.

“There will be some drinks that are child friendly. There will be a TV fireplace, and Wi-Fi. It will be a nice little area to get away from the stress,” said Robinson. “It’s just an added service that we are making available. We just want to give our families the best possible variety of things that will help them through the grief process.”

Robinson says he hopes this will help to ease the grieving period for families.

“We’re here to make our families feel comfortable,” said Robinson. “We know it’s a rough time for them when they lose a loved one, and this will provide an escape from the stress which is why we are doing it.”

When it opens in August the coffee corner will be have set operating hours and will also be open when there is a family visitation at the funeral home.

Robinson said the coffee corner will also be open to the general public, but there will be no signs outside advertising the coffee corner.
