EASLEY—Easley is hoping to build off a season that saw 11 wins last year, but getting ready for a new year will require a few challenges.

The Green Wave began a demanding pre-season schedule last week that included trips to Chapman, Clover, and Berea. All of those games lead up to the big event Thursday, which will be the Football Jamboree against Travelers Rest at home.

Easley Head Coach Chad Smith says he believes challenging his guys early could lead to success in the regular season. The third-year coach says this year’s pre-season games should have the team prepared for anything.

“Our kids are working extremely hard,” said Smith. “We’ve got a very large senior class coming back. We’re returning about seven starters on defense and a lot of starters on offense.”

Easley will need solid performances to make it to the regular season. The Green Wave will wrap up their pre-season tour with a trip to Gaffney August, 10. Gaffney spent the majority of the year in 2011 ranked No. 1 in the state.

After a battle with the state’s top team, Easley will have just seven days to prepare for the Food Fight Bowl against Pickens High. This rivalry, which will kick off the regular season, ensures a battle between the hard-nose running game of Easley, and the youthful Blue Flame of Pickens.

As for regular season preparations, Smith says his team is doing all of the right things to ensure another successful year.

“We don’t ever go into a season planning for a state championship, but we just try to prepare for each game and take it one game at a time,” said Smith.
