Schools close as ice moves in

PICKENS/UPPER ANDERSON — Schools in Pickens County and Anderson District 1 closed at 10 a.m. today.

Anderson District 4 elementary and pre-K students were slated to leave at 10 a.m. and the middle and high schoolers at 11 a.m.

School administrators made the call after reports of icing throughout the region with an advancing winter storm.

Children left home thinking the icy conditions would develop around noon but reports of sleet and icing windshields were coming in by 8 a.m.
