Before the gathering of years can further tarnish our public recollection, the Easley Progress will shake off the red rust of time and open up the archives to January of 1964.
The front page featured a headline that read:
“Ice, Snow Bring Low of 11 Here”
The article detailed that Pickens County had endured its third icy-snow of the week as a half an inch of sleet and snow covered the area.
The Progress also reported the births and deaths in Pickens County from the previous year.
The county recorded 253 deaths and 829 births in 1963.
The Easley Drive-In Theatre was showing “Rock-A-Bye Baby” starring Jerry Lewis and “A New Kind of Love” starring Paul Newman.
Several advertisements were also featured.
The Winn Dixie was selling a 20 oz. loaf of bread for 15 cents and a pound of bacon for 35 cents.
Harpers 5 & 10 on Main Street in Easley sold a four pack of boys’ socks for 66 cents and two bath towels for 97 cents.
In other news, President John F. Kennedy had been dead for just two months following his assassination in Dallas, Texas, and the second Beatles album released in the United States was introduced called, “Meet the Beatles”.
The Easley Progress was in its 62nd year.
