After serving five years as Port Chaplains on the Mississippi in New Orleans Louisiana, Steve and Ann Corbin returned to Pickens County in 2011 to start “Get Up & Go Ministries.”
Café Connections, located at 319 E. Main Street in Pickens, is a ministry of “Get Up and Go” and was opened to the public in February of 2012.
The café and Get Up & Go Ministries relies upon the generosity and donations of the community.
“Our main objective was to minister to our home folk in our home town. We wanted to be able to share the gospel in a non-threatening way,” said Café Connections owner, Ann Corbin. “We want to create an environment where people ask us what is so different about you, and that is our invitation to share with them the gospel.”
Café Connections provides a place where the community can come together and communicate.
The café offers free Wi-Fi and internet use, free dessert and coffee, a place to bring your lunch and get away from the office, work place bible studies, mentorship programs for teens and young adults, karaoke and open mic nights, billiards and other games, and a comfortable safe place to come and share heartfelt needs and concerns.
All of the services are offered to the public at no charge.
“It was a dream of ours that God placed in our hearts over 25 years ago, and we dared to ask ourselves if money was no object what we could envision ourselves doing for the kingdom,” said Corbin. “”We have a lot of people that come in here who have been hurt in life so they are not very open to talking with us, but the more that they come in, they begin to open up and start sharing heartfelt needs and asking questions, that is when we have the opportunity to share the gospel.”
On August 24-25, Café Connections will host “Pans of Praise” from Trinidad.
It is a free event that will feature Caribbean music and steel drums.
