Culbreath drops out of Sheriff’s race; Endorses Morgan
by Billy Cannada
Staff Writer

PICKENS COUNTY—In an ever-changing Pickens County Sheriff’s race, Independent candidate Keith Culbreath has pulled out of the November election and endorsed Petition Candidate Tim Morgan.

“It was a personal decision on my part,” said Culbreath. “I just decided to pull out and back Tim Morgan. I didn’t know Tim was going to run, but I think he’s probably the man for the job.”

Morgan, the long-time assistant sheriff for Pickens County, began his bid for Sheriff after current Sheriff David Stone lost to Rick Clark in the Republican Primary. Morgan and Stan Whitten both mustered enough signatures to be added added to the slate as petition candidates. The November election will now be a contest between Clark, Morgan and Whitten.

“I worked with Tim for the better part of 17 years, and he’s very capable,” said Culbreath. “Operational-wise he’s run it for the last 15 or 20 years. I’m sure Tim is going to make some changes, streamline some different things, and head down a different path.”

Whitten was originally on the ballot for the Republican Primary, but was taken off the ballot after the SC Supreme Court ruled that Whitten and about 200 other candidates around the state did not turn in two different types of paperwork at the same time, as required. He made the decision to run as a petition candidate.

Getting Morgan elected is now Culbreath’s goal.

“I’m going to support Tim,” said Culbreath.
