PIEDMONT—Despite a season full of success, top-seeded Wren High was ousted by Eastside in the district championship Saturday night.
The Wren Baseball team was unable to find the offense it needed during a crucial stretch of the game, and fell during a 4-1 battle.
The Hurricanes finish the season 21-8.
Wren would have needed to beat Eastside in consecutive games to advance past the district championship.
The senior-led squad began the game very aggressively. After an L.T. Tolbert walk, Eli White replaced him on the bases only to score off an Erven Roper single.
Despite the early 1-0 lead, Wren’s bats could not get going against Eagle fireballer Brandon Barber, who only gave up two hits in the contest.
The Hurricane’s defense fell apart in the fifth inning, giving up four runs to a hot Eastside team.
Nick Dalpiaz and White had opportunities to bring Wren closer late in the game, but efforts were stifled by a solid defensive performance.
Wren ends its playoff push with two losses, both dished out by Eastside.
The Hurricanes earned wins over Greer and Woodruff to get to the district championship game.
