Baptist Easley Hospital honored Lori Carnsew, MD, as the Cam Underhill Practicing Excellence Physician of the Year for 2012. The award was presented to Dr. Carnsew of Baptist Easley’s Liberty Family Care on Doctor’s Day, March 27.
Many patient and staff nominations cited Dr. Carnsew for her caring and compassion. One nomination read, “I would like to nominate this physician for the Practicing Excellence Award. I look after a man in Liberty who lives alone and is not in good health. He had been in bed for two weeks and I could not get him to go to the doctor. At the end of my rope, I asked for help from this physician. Not only did she agree to help me, she went to my friend’s house and checked him out. I also got him to go to her office to have an IV. I know my friend might have died without the love and compassion shown by Dr. Carnsew. I want to thank her and let her know we are so proud to have her in our town. This physician is a perfect example of a doctor who cares more about people than anything else, and someone who is willing to go out of her way for someone else. Thank you! I will never forget your help.”
Dr. Carnsew also received the Physician of the Quarter award for first quarter 2013. One nomination read: “She is very thorough, patient, and has such compassion for all her patients. Her knowledge is remarkable and the times I had health issues/problems, she did not stop until all possible test and consults (as needed) were done. She knows how to work within the confines of the healthcare systems, while maintaining the integrity of her practice. I appreciate how she NEVER rushes through my visits and discusses and answers any concerns. She is the first and only doctor I have ever had in my years of care even in North Carolina who consistently provides this type of care. She communicates with all the staff and appears to be a great teacher when student physicians assisted during my visits.”
The Cam Underhill Practicing Excellence award, given quarterly, honors physicians for displaying the Baptist Easley Medical Staff Standards of Behavior: Integrity, Compassion, and Competence. The annual awardee is chosen from one of the quarterly recipients.
