LIBERTY—A Liberty High senior will soon be trying his luck on the collegiate wrestling mat.
Liberty’s Dakota Stewart signed a letter of intent with Anderson University on Thursday to compete in wrestling.
Stewart had a high school career record of 142-40. He was 51-4 during his senior season with 33 pins.
“Dakota is a naturally gifted wrestler who is very determined,” Liberty Wrestling Coach Dale Burrell said. “He hates to lose and wins many matches on sheer toughness. He is energetic and starting to become more technical. Wrestling in a collegiate setting should bring out his best as he often rises to the level of his competition.”
Stewart was team MVP, Pickens County Champion, fifth at Southern Slam, Region Champion, Upper State Champion, and State Runner-up in the 138 lb weight class (lost 4-3) during his senior season.
Stewart helped lead Liberty to a team Region Championship and State Runner-up finish this season. He was named All-Region I-AA as both a junior and senior.
At the end of his senior season, he was selected to compete in the North-South All-Star match.
Stewart was also a four time All-State runner in cross country the Red Devils.
