EASLEY — Baptist Easley Hospital has added another achievement to its growing list of professional awards and recognitions.

The hospital was the only one in South Carolina to be named a top performer in the Top Rural Hospital category by the Leapfrog Group. Duke University Hospital was named in the Top Hospital category in North Carolina. The Top Hospital designation, which is the most competitive national hospital quality award, recognizes hospitals that deliver the highest quality care by preventing medical errors and reducing hospital readmissions for patients being treated for conditions like pneumonia and heart attack.

“I sincerely thank the physicians and staff at Baptist Easley Hospital for putting our patients at the center of everything they do. This award is proof that the care and safety of our patients is our top priority,” said Roddey E. Gettys, III, CEO of Baptist Easley Hospital. “Baptist Easley is the best place for employees to work, patients to receive care, and physicians to practice medicine.”

“The Leapfrog Top Hospital distinction is by far the most competitive award a hospital can receive. Leapfrog holds hospitals to the highest standards on behalf of our purchaser members and their employees,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “By achieving the Top Hospital accolade, Baptist Easley Hospital has demonstrated exemplary performance across all areas of quality and patient safety that are analyzed on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey.”

Baptist Easley Hospital was selected as a Top Hospital out of nearly, 1,200 hospitals participating in The Leapfrog Group’s annual survey. This year, the Top Hospital list includes 67 hospitals, Top Rural Hospital list includes 13 hospitals and the Children’s Hospital list includes 12 hospitals. The selection is based on the results of the Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey, which measures hospitals’ performance on patient safety and quality, focusing on three critical areas of hospital care: how patients fare, resource use, and management structures in place to prevent errors. The results of the survey are posted on a website (http://www.leapfroggroup.org/cp) open to patients and families, the public, employers, and other purchasers of healthcare.

Along with the Leapfrog Top Hospital designation, Baptist Easley Hospital was recently named one of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States. Baptist Easley was recognized by The Joint Commission for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care. Baptist Easley also has been named a 2012 Summit Award® winner for Ambulatory Surgery by Press Ganey Associates, Inc. for sustained levels of high patient satisfaction performance. The Summit Award, one of the healthcare industry’s most coveted symbols of achievement, recognizes top-performing facilities that sustain the highest levels of patient satisfaction performance for three consecutive years.
