PICKENS COUNTY — The Pickens County United Way is working to bring VITA — Volunteer Income Tax Assistance — to the county.

The VITA program provides a free tax preparation to low- and moderate-income families across the county.

VITA’s mission is to ensure that everyone in the community receives all eligible tax credits and deduction.

Available credits include the Earned Income Tax Credit which can put thousands of dollars back into the pockets of county residents.

The United Way is looking for volunteer to help show potential tax benefits.

Volunteers do not necessarily have to have strong math skills. The United Way will provide all materials and training necessary to have volunteers prepared for tax season.

The United Way is seeking volunteer tax preparers, greeters and interpreters to serve weekly from mid-January until mid-April at one of five tax preparation sites around Pickens County.

The United Way has set a goal of recruiting 100 volunteers before Dec. 31.

For more information on this opportunity or to find out how you can volunteer, contact Katey Buechler at (864) 850-7094 x131 or by email at kbuechler@uwpickens.org.
