EASLEY — It’s bound to be a sunny day April 9 for the 8th annual Spring Fling in Easley, because the headliners are Jack Roper and The Weatherman Band.

Spring Fling, sponsored by the Easley Downtown Business Association, will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Roper, a native of Union, has been a longtime weatherman on WSPA television. Roper has now branched out into co-hosting, “Your Carolina,” with Easley native Kimberly Kelley.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Roper received his meteorology degree from Mississippi State University in 2007.

In addition to making special appearances with his band, Roper spends his time outside of work performing his magic shows at area festivals and events. Roper also makes his Positive Attitude Speech at churches, civic groups and businesses.

Roper started his broadcast career in radio. After several years in local Carolina radio, Jack moved to Washington, N.C. as a weather anchor and children’s show host at WITN-TV. He then headed out west to KENS-TV in San Antonio, Texas, where he was also weather anchor. He returned to South Carolina in 1986 to join the News Channel 7 team as a weather anchor.

Roper has been awarded the South Carolina Broadcasters Association’s Local Broadcast Personality of the Year award three times.

Roper is the former host of the program “Kidsizzle with Jack Roper,” which received the Best Children’s Program award five times from the South Carolina Broadcasters Association. In 2003, Roper received an Emmy for his weather presentation in the News Channel 7 5 p.m. newscast. Roper is now the on air host for News Channel 7’s Caring for the Carolinas Campaign.

The Spring Fling Festival will also feature food, vendors, arts, crafts and inflatables for the children.

The Easley Farmer’s Market will open its 2011 season on April 9.

Meanwhile, the Pickens County YMCA is co-sponsoring the Spring Fling 5K Run and Bike Event. There will also be a Easter Egg Fun Run for ages 2 to 10.
