The seats became obsolete as the School District of Pickens County made plans to remodel the current Pickens High School into the new Pickens Middle School. Because of the cost of bringing the auditorium up to city codes, plans were made to reuse that area of the school for classroom space.
District Building Director Bob Folkman determined that the cost of salvaging the auditorium seats would be greater than any possible resale value, and therefore gave his approval for the plan.
The City of Pickens, which provides the former Hagood Elementary School facility as home for the Pickens Senior Center, would be in charge of removing the seats from the high school at no cost to the district.
The board voted unanimously to approve the sale of the seats.
