YMCA races included at Spring Fling Saturday

EASLEY —Easley’s Spring Fling Festival will start early Saturday Saturday with hearts pumping fast with four events featuring healthy competition.

The Pickens County YMCA will provide the Spring Fling 5K Run or Bike Event, sponsored by Suntrust Bank.

Included in the event is an Easter Egg Fun Run for ages 2 to 10 beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Next up are the three adult competitions, set to begin at 8 a.m.

The 5K Run/Walk is on a loop course. The Half-Metric Bike ride is set on a 31 mile out-and-back course. The Metric Bike Ride is set on a 62-mile full loop course.

Late registration is still open for the three adult races. Thoe wishing to participate in the 5K Run/Walk may do so for $20, which includes a t-shirt and chip-time. Runners who do not sish for chip timing may register for $15, and still receive a t-shirt.

Registration for the two bike rides is $20, and includes a shirt.

All proceeeds go to the YMCA’s “Share the Spirit Fund” More information, including maps of courses, are avaliable at www.pcymca.net/fling.php.

The actual Spring Fling Festival will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in downtown Easley.

Headlining the festival will be Jack Roper and The Weatherman Band.

Roper, a native of Union, has been a longtime weatherman on WSPA television. Roper has now branched out into co-hosting, “Your Carolina,” with Easley native Kimberly Kelley.

Roper has been awarded the South Carolina Broadcasters Association’s Local Broadcast Personality of the Year award three times. Roper is the former host of the program “Kidsizzle with Jack Roper,” which received the Best Children’s Program award five times from the South Carolina Broadcasters Association.

Other on-stage performers include the girl duo known as Double Take and dancers from Spotlight Dance in Easley.

The festival will feature food vendors, arts, crafts as well as inflatable slides for children.
