-- The flow of 18 Mile Creek, source of water for the city of Liberty, was reduced by almost one-half due to the drought.
-- A drive at Greenville-Pickens Speedway was arrested for reckless driving during the course of the race. After the charges were dismissed in court, the driver turned around and sued the speedway.
-- Pickens County schools were preparing for an Aug. 21 start.
-- An Easley video store owner was charged with disseminating obscene material because he rented the movie “The Harlequin Affair” to a minor.
-- The Louis P. Towles family of Easley was the 1986 Regional Family of the Year.
-- Obituaries were printed for Dewitt Snyder, Michael Lee Allgood, Andrew Hunter, Katheryn Rowland, Arthur W. Raines, Mary Gacen Schrivener, Ethel Sentell, Tyner Szeflinski, Beatrice Ora Scott, Ruth Williams Jones, Freddie LeRoy Howard, Charles Franklin, Breazeale, Christorpher C. — The Easley Senior League team won the state tournament and advanced to the Regional tournament.

— Former NFL quarterback Norman Van Brocklin was set to be the speaker for the upcoming Easley Football Jamboree. Former Wake Forest Coach Peahead Walker ws set to be there, as was sportswriter Ed Danford.
— The new Liberty Post Office was set to be dedicated Saturday.
— Obituaries were printed for Ford W. Williams, Wales G. Owens, Clarence Lee Martin, Roxie Swafford Williams, Lydia Gibson Watson, Ida Belle Teate and Nellie Grace Stewart.
— A four-barrel whiskey still was raided in the Peters Creek section. Ten gallons of liquor was poured out.
— Dr. Ed Bolt said that Wales Owens, who had passed away that week, was “probably the best passer and punter in Easley’s history.
—The engagement announcement for Alice Elizabeth Youngblood to Medus Preston Henry was announced.
— Birth announcements were printed for James Timothy Winslow, Russell Helton Hawkins, Kenneth Arnold Gilliard, Cynthia Anne Gilstrap, Dorothy Sharon Simmons, Brenda Lee Stone, Trevory Holder benjamin, Sharon Dinette Sitton, Debra Denise Bradley and Teresa Darlene Aiken.
