ANDERSON COUNTY

It doesn’t look like the drought is going to relent this summer, Anderson County Council members said.

This was one of the few topics the council seemed to be able to agree on unanimously, as council passed a resolution requesting residents and businesses to conserve water due to the drought conditions.

Councilwoman Gracie Floyd said council should seriously review drought control and emergency procedures now because residents “need to know what we need to do in our county in case this becomes so severe that we don’t have the water that we need in order to exist.”

Councilwoman Cindy Wilson agreed.

“It’s expected to be one of the worst droughts this summer,” Wilson said. “I’m definitely in support of trying to accept any problems now to mitigate any problems in the future.”

In other news, county council:

-Voted in favor the final reading of an ordinance authorizing the financing and construction of sewer facilities to serve the new Flat Rock School in Anderson School District 5.

-Voted in favor of the first reading of an ordinance making an amendment regarding solid waste.

-Voted in favor of the first reading of an ordinance to authorize a transfer of an easement for ingress, egress and utilities to the Powdersville Water District near the property off S.C. 81 used by the Powdersville Library and the water district.

-Voted in favor of accepting Silverleaf Subdivision and Brookstone Acres Phase II into the county road maintenance system.
