POWDERSVILLE - Powdersville residents are trying to stop a 196-acre construction and demolition landfill from coming to Hamlin Road near S.C. 88.

This isn't the first time the community has heard about this landfill.

Greenpointe LLC applied to start a landfill there in 2005, but the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control denied the request.

Greenpointe then appealed to the Administrative Law Court in Columbia, and a judge overruled DHEC's decision, said John McCain, a project reviewer with DHEC.

Residents plan to meet at Providence Presbyterian Church today at 7 p.m.

Check back in the Friday, Feb. 29 edition of the Powdersville Post for more details.
