PICKENS COUNTY - Coming to a road near you: new street surfaces to at least 19 roads in need of attention.
County leaders approved the first phase of road paving and work is now under way on roads needing minimal preparation for resurfacing, according to County Administrator Chappell Hurst.
Paving began last week on those roads and will continue until all 19 are completed, he said.
"There aren't a lot of problems on these," Hurst said.
Meanwhile, county workers are busy preparing other roads in need of some repairs and other preparation such as grading, grinding and drainage issues, he said.
"That's going to require us to get ahead and by working on these others (not needing preparation), it gives us the lead time we need," Hurst said.
Once finished with the 19, the contractor can move on to the roads county workers are preparing now, he said.
The list of 19 roads currently getting a facelift was compiled strictly based on readiness for paving, he said, and were not put on the list in any particular order.
