EASLEY - The Big League World Series is fast approaching and Easley, once again, and at least for another five years, will be hosting the event at the J.B. "Red" Owens Complex beginning Saturday July 26.
Teams from around the world are wrapping up their playoffs to see who will advance to the big finale.
The U.S. Eastern region's host team is Delaware District 1 and they will battle New Jersey in that championship game on July 22. After initially losing to New Jersey in the third round of play 10-9, the host team had to win against Delaware District Two out of Namaans Little League. They pulled off the feat against the cross-state rival, winning 4-2 and now await a final game that could place them in the World Series.
In the Western region, Southern California and Nevada successfully knocked out the host team, Seattle, Wa., Northern California, Oregon, Arizona and Hawaii. The two will face off in another championship game July 22.
In the Southwest region, the state champions, Louisiana, will not be the one's advancing to the World Series. After losing to Texas East in the second round 4-2 then again to Texas West in the losers bracket 12-2, the state defenders will have to wait until next year. The host team, Rushton, La., however, will get a shot at the World Series title after defeating Texas East 15-2 in the region final.
In the Southern region, Florida and South Carolina will be taking each other on at 8 p.m. on July 22. South Carolina, after beating West Virginia 11-1, has a tough road ahead against Florida who defeated the favored host team, Florida district Two, 8-4.
In the Central region, Wyoming will be traveling to Easley after winning against Illinois 11-0. They went undefeated during the entire regional playoff.
In Canada, the host team, Quebec, plays Prairies on July 22 to see who advances to the championship game against British Columbia on Wednesday, July 23.
