EASLEY - A mother turned herself in to police Monday morning after her newborn tested positive for cocaine.
Stephanie Lee, 28, of 203 Mark Street, Easley, faces a charge of unlawful neglect of a child, according to a report.
The state Department of Social Services told Easley police that on June 23, a baby was born "with cocaine in the bloodstream," the report said.
Blood tests found no cocaine in the mother's system, but other prescription narcotics were present that could have been given in the hospital, the report said.
"The sample taken from the infant was collected as soon as the child was born which would mean that the cocaine was ingested by the mother at least one week before the child was born," the report said.
Lee voluntarily surrendered at the Law Enforcement Center, said Maj. Tim Tollison.
The child was taken by the social services and placed into the custody of a relative, the report said.
